Warranties
Master Bond Accreditation.
NDB enjoys full MasterBond accreditation, measuring up to the
Federation of Master Builders most demanding criteria in order to offer this Warranty.
Giving our customers the reassurance they need.
Whenever you extend your home or have major
alterations done, you generally have the option to take out a Warranty on that work to protect you in the unlikely
event of any faults or breakdowns.
What is a MasterBond
warranty?
The MasterBond warranty is an insurance product that
protects you against your chosen builder going into liquidation or otherwise ceasing to trade. If your builder
refuses for defined reasons to finish your building project, your MasterBond policy also ensures that the works are
completed in accordance with your agreed specification.
How much does it cost?
NDB offers a free master bond 6 insurance warranty on all home
extensions started and completed by ourselves. For all other building or structural works there is an
additional cost.
There is an additional cost on top of the project value, should
customers wish to have their project guaranteed. The premium is based on a percentage of the overall project
value and the level of Warranty required and therefore will be dependent on the individual
project.
How to protect yourself from rogues and
cowboys.
"I’ve seen so many horror stories on TV – what should I do to
protect myself?"
The best way to protect
yourself from rogue traders is to use a Trustmark registered firm and to follow our Essential Advice.
When employing a tradesman you are
advised
To follow best practice and:-
• Be specific and set out a detailed, clear brief when requesting at least three
quotes.
• Ask friends and family for a recommendation and check the Trustmark website
at
www.trustmark.org.uk to ensure that the tradesman is
registered for the particular trades you require.
• Use a firm that advertises using a landline phone number and be very wary of those
only willing to give you a mobile number
• Seek references, speak to previous customers and if a reasonable sized job, visit
previous jobs.
• Don't just go with the cheapest, consider your ability to communicate with the firm
and the quality of their work.
• Only pay for work that has been done and not by advance payments.
• If materials need to be bought in advance by the tradesman, it is reasonable that
the customer is asked to pay a fair percentage of these costs as the job progresses.
• Always use a written contract as it offers you protection if anything does go
wrong.
• Agree in writing any changes to the agreed contract value and ensure these are
agreed in writing before the work is done.
